It’s awkward asking people for money for group gifts. Keeping track of who’s paid and who hasn’t signed their name on the card makes gift-giving stressful! But GroupTogether takes the hassle out of organising gifts for teachers, making it easy for you and fellow parents to organise a group teacher gift.
How does it work? Visit GroupTogether and create a collection for your teacher by telling us what you’re collecting for, how much everyone should contribute, and inviting friends via email, message or WhatsApp.
Invite other parents and caregivers to contribute. You can even add a personal message, a photo, or a giff to make the teacher present extra special. Forget last-minute shopping or collecting cash; GroupTogether streamlines the process for you — keeping track of payments, sending reminders to late payers, and allowing contirutors to pay online.
Finally, spend the money however you want! Buy gifts and eGift Cards from our retail partners. Withdraw collected cash or split it. You can even donate money to charity.

GroupTogether is free if you collect money and spend it on a gift or eGift Card from one of our 70+ retail partners. See what’s available in the Gift Store.
GroupTogether charges a small fee if you want to withdraw the funds, available in AU only. See pricing here.
GroupTogether charges a one-time fee of $5.50 AUD to create a group card. See what’s included here.
Yes you can. Once the funds are collected you can break the amount into individual $50 AnyCards or retailer eGift cards. You can sign each gift card from a different group of students so that you are in compliance with the relevant state law.
Where the total estimated value of a Gift of Appreciation is equal to or exceeds $500, the school has the discretion to allow the teacher to retain it only when it has been offered by multiple students, parents and/or carers.
FYI: A teacher in VIC can accept a gift valued up to $500 if offered by multiple students or carers.
Yes you can. Once your collection closes, you can split the money into as many eGift Cards as you'd like. You can even transfer some of the funds to an Australian bank account.
Keep in mind - the money must be spent all at once; you can only transfer funds to 1 bank account; and for each collection we only create one group card with messages and photos (though you can download it and share it or print it as many times as you'd like).
If you use the funds to purchase AnyCards (GroupTogether's swap card), the recipient can swap it across multiple retailers. They have 3 years to use the AnyCard and once swapped, the retailer eGift card is valid for another 3 years.
There's a few ways you can share your card/collection.
Invite via email - Simply add email addresses and we'll send an invitation and reminders to everyone on your list.
Share a link - Don't have emails? No worries! Every collection has its own unique URL that we give you to share in whichever channel you'd like - WhatsApp, Messenger, SMS, etc.
No one needs to download an app! Everyone simply clicks the link from any device to chip in and sign the card.
During the setup process, you can choose to allow parents to sign the card without contributing.
Good teacher gifts are thoughtful, but it's unlikely you know your child's teacher well enough to choose the perfect gift for them. Best organise a group card and add a GroupTogether AnyCard so they can choose the gift they really want.
If you do know exactly what they'd like, either withdraw the funds or choose a voucher for a nice restaurant (Gourmet Traveller eGift card) or a weekend away (AirBnB). We also have flowers, plants, gift hampers of fruit and more. For other great ideas, check out our top gift ideas for teachers.
Last year over one million people chipped in for group gifts using GroupTogether. When it comes to teachers' gifts, on average, Australian parents contribute $20. But with GroupTogether there's no pressure on parents to contribute a specific amount. You can choose to ask for a fixed or open amount or let people sign a card with the option to chip in. The process is anonymous too. Contributors don't know how much others have or haven't given.
While teachers appreciate gestures of gratitude, it's best to avoid overly personal or extravagant gifts. Steer clear of alcohol, perfumes, or anything that may not align with their tastes or values.
Gifts are often given at the end of the school year, but people also do collective gifts for the teacher's birthday, wedding, childbirth and sickness. Saying this, it's never too early or late to show your appreciation. With GroupTogether, you can easily organise a collection whenever it suits you and your school community.
Teacher Appreciation Day (or World Teachers' Day) is celebrated in all Australian states and territories on the last Friday in October. So this year, Teacher Appreciation Day is Friday 25 October 2024.
